The Math Behind Playback Speed
Playback speed directly divides total watch time. A 10-hour playlist at 2x takes exactly 5 hours.
Time Saved Across Common Playlist Lengths
| Playlist Length | 1x | 1.25x | 1.5x | 2x |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 5 hours | 5h | 4h | 3h 20m | 2h 30m |
| 10 hours | 10h | 8h | 6h 40m | 5h |
| 20 hours | 20h | 16h | 13h 20m | 10h |
| 40 hours | 40h | 32h | 26h 40m | 20h |
Which Speed Is Right For You?
1.25x — The Starter Speed
Barely noticeable. A great starting point if you've never watched at speed before.
1.5x — The Productivity Sweet Spot
Most recommended. Comprehension stays above 90% for most content types.
2x — The Expert Mode
Best for content you're already familiar with, or for simple/conversational videos. Comprehension can drop for dense technical content.
Our Recommendation
Start at 1.25x, work up to 1.5x over a week, and use 2x only on content you partly know.
